I have read the review. Actually, DF was quite uneasy about writing it, it seems, because more than half of it is neither concerned with either the piece or the performance. And he seems to have been pained to write that bit, too. Lives some mild criticism and 2Stars. The two stars are utterly undeserved, but what is there as a review sounds to me as if he has fallen asleep between the 1st bars & the standing ovation. He is, I take it, an old man, and sleeping happens to the best of us – I fell asleep during Bruckner’s sleep-inducing piece of boredom last night after all

Great commentary Brendan. I thought Mr F got what should have been coming to him for a long time – he’s been insulting the orchestra for long enough, but he made the cardinal error of insulting the intelligence of the audience!

I have to say that if the Peter O’Toole performance was a response to a review of his Macbeth production 30 years ago, I would be in agreement with the critic this time. It was so awful that it was hysterically funny. I saw it with students from abroad who were left with the most peculiar ideas about Shakespeare.

The video of Jim Shepherd playing Pandora at Uppermill Civic Hall was not in 2008. How do I know ?. On back row 3rd. cornet is Peter Moorcroft, Peter sadly died in 2000, so it was sometime before then, possibly 1998 and Jim would be in his early 60′s.

Very interesting read! Was surprised to find out that there are some similarities between Romanian and Russian cuisine! You’ve mentioned ‘the traditional dish of mixed mince meat rolled in cabbage’, there is a very similar dish in Russia. Looking at your picture, realized how greatly I miss it
