Followers of this blog, Classic fm listeners and supporters of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will already know that Classic fm’s popular morning show host, John Suchet, will be joining the RLPO for this year’s Superorchestra event at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on June 15th.
John was a keen amateur trombonist, but gave up some years ago. However, he has always keep his instrument and has given it an overhaul regularly at Phil Parker Ltd, the famous London Brass specialists.

Last December, John Suchet was presenting our Spirit of Christmas series. He was having a drink and a chat with the RLPO brass section, where it emerged that he was a keen trombonist and we persuaded him to dust the cobwebs off his ‘bone’ and join us for the annual Superorchestra event. This is where the RLPO invite amateur musicians from the public to join us for a day of rehearsals, culminating in a concert performance at the end. It is good fun and allows us to give something back to the community who support us.

John was very excited about the event and is taking his practice very seriously. Here he is, pictured with RLPO Principal Trombone Simon Cowen. Simon is Professor of Trombone at the Royal Northern College of Music, in Manchester (when not on orchestra duties) and here he is, pictured with John at the brand new Classic fm studios in Leicester Square, London. Simon was there to give John a lesson and to perform some duets. Classic fm have filmed the session and will be putting some footage on their website.
Classic fm and the RLPO have enjoyed a longstanding branding partnership together for over a decade.
