I’m a little late posting this year’s ‘growings.’ Never mind, here is what I’ve been getting up to.
I have to grow my produce around the fact that my garden has to look nice, provide space for washing etc and exist as a social space too. I always plant flowers. Apart from looking great, the encourage all those insects to come in to the Urban Farm, pollenate the veg and friut, eat all those nasty pests etc. Here are the hanging baskets and flower pots. They help to make a spot of ‘farming’ a lot more pleasant.
Now for what we are getting to put on the table this season…
Of course, it is common to grow your fruit & veg amongst the flowers, in the pots and baskets. I have found that planting strawberry plants with flowers in baskets. This keeps the slugs etc on the ground at bay.
Having largely paved front an back yards, I have found growing in containers to be a successful way forward. Potatoes, for instance (chives at the front)…
It is also common to grow more than one produce in the same pot…
Tomatoes always grow well in pots too…
Herbs are also thriving in containers…
I’ll be posting regularly about growing food at home. It’s amazing how much you can achieve, even with relatively small growing spaces.
