Enjoying a meet up with international award winning composer and wordsmith Ailis Ni Riain today in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Ailis was speeding through the city on another whistle stop tour playing contemporary music at the Blue Coat last night.
As many regular readers will be aware, I have partaken in more than a few world premieres of Ailis’ extraordinary contemporary classical music and audio & filmed recordings of the same. I have undertaken several Uk tours of Ailis’ new & original solo trumpet works too, composed with me specially in mind.
TREASURED always springs to mind too: a site-specific piece of music theatre created by Jen Heyes, with original words and music by Ailis Ni Riain to marked the one hundredth anniversary of the Titanic disaster. This huge 90 minute spectacle, of which I was the only live musician, played to somewhere between four & five thousand people on a five day run in the magnificent Anglican Cathedral, Liverpool.
!Brewing up wholly new and exciting ideas over a brew!
To round off a pretty hectic 2016 Ailis Ni Riain is doing two improv and prepared piano gigs in the coming week with Amy Brandon (Canada) (classical guitar) and Kristina Warren (USA) (voice, electronics) at Bluecoat in Liverpool this Thursday (15th) and Fri (16th) at IABF in Manchester. The three, known as AKA, met earlier this year at The Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida.
